Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 27, 2026
Overview
CopyCruise is a privacy-first clipboard manager browser extension. We believe your clipboard data is personal and should stay on your device. This policy explains what data CopyCruise accesses, how it's stored, and your rights regarding that data.
Data Collection
CopyCruise does NOT collect any personal data. We do not:
- Send any data to external servers
- Use analytics or tracking services
- Collect usage statistics
- Require account creation or authentication
- Share data with third parties
- Store data in the cloud
What CopyCruise Captures
CopyCruise captures text that you copy within your browser:
- Text copied using keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C)
- Text copied via "Copy" buttons on websites
- The URL of the website where you copied the text (for source tracking)
- The timestamp of when the text was copied
CopyCruise does NOT capture:
- Text copied outside your browser (native apps, system clipboard)
- Images, files, or non-text content
- Text copied on blocked websites (password managers)
- Browser history, passwords, or form data
Data Storage
All clipboard data is stored locally on your device using browser's IndexedDB storage. This means:
- Your data never leaves your computer
- Data is stored in your browser's local storage
- Data is tied to your browser profile
- Clearing browser data will remove CopyCruise data
- Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data
Password Manager Protection
CopyCruise automatically blocks clipboard capture on popular password manager websites to protect your sensitive credentials:
- Bitwarden (bitwarden.com, vault.bitwarden.com)
- 1Password (1password.com, my.1password.com)
- LastPass (lastpass.com)
- Dashlane (dashlane.com, app.dashlane.com)
You can also add custom domains to the blocklist in the extension settings.
PIN Lock Security
CopyCruise offers an optional PIN lock feature to protect your clipboard history. When enabled, your PIN is hashed using PBKDF2 (with 100,000 iterations) and stored locally. The original PIN is never stored. If you forget your PIN, the only way to reset it is to clear all clipboard history data.
Browser Permissions
CopyCruise requests the following browser permissions:
- clipboardRead/Write — To read copied text and paste selected clips
- storage — To store clipboard history locally
- activeTab — To detect the source URL when you copy text
- contextMenus — To add right-click menu options
- idle — To auto-lock when you're away (if PIN lock is enabled)
- sidePanel — To enable side panel mode
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Access — View all stored clips in the extension popup or side panel
- Delete — Remove individual clips or clear all history in settings
- Export — Download all your data as a JSON file
- Block — Add websites to the blocklist to prevent capture
Content Security Policy Limitations
On websites with strict Content Security Policies (such as banking sites), CopyCruise's content script may be blocked. In these cases, only text copied using keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C) is captured. This is a browser security feature and cannot be bypassed.
Children's Privacy
CopyCruise is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
